MMP 004: How To Host Your Own Seminars Or Workshops Offline – With Nams Founder David Perdew

"Right click” here for the MP3 format.

Note: I am still working out the kinks on the video so please bare with me. I am trying out a new service as we speak.

On Today's Show...

There is no doubt that hosting your own event whether it be a seminar or workshop, can be very lucrative. In this episode I am interviewing David Perdew who founded the famous NAMS workshop in Atlanta.

Nams is an internet marketing workshop that started with 65 people and now has 300 attendees coming to NAMS 7. David shares exactly how he came up with the idea as well as how he books the room (and fills the room for that matter). This has got to be one of the best interviews that I have conducted so be sure to take notes.

Some of the things we covered are:

  • How to find the right location and who exactly to talk to about getting discounts (This person actually handles the whole process for David).
  • The 15 page book that Dave hands to all his instructors to make sure the workshop is successful.
  • How Dave lost a $100,000 a year website due to hacking and what he did to build it back up in 3 short months.
  • The persuasion technique Dave uses to get feedback from his attendees in the morning and evening - by far one of the biggest takeaways in this episode.
  • The marketing strategy that Dave uses to bring in 38% of his workshop attendees.
  • How he breaks up his workshops into 4 different sections so the beginners and the advanced attendees stay interested, and why this is a VERY profitable model to follow.
  • Why he started a membership site for Nams attendees and his pricing strategy for increasing the monthly fee.
  • About David Perdew

David has done many things including personally building a log house in the woods (on a stream with a waterfall) in North Alabama to building a stock photo agency that grew from $0 to $1.7 million in sales and culminated with the sale of the company after 5 years to an international stock photo agency in London, England.

He is also the founder of the ever popular Nams workshop.

The Marketing Strategy Willie T’s Is Using To Create An Experience For Their Customers

In this post, I am going to share with you how a local bar in the Carribean is giving their customers a really cool experience that has viral marketing written all over it.

I was just watching the travel channel and they were talking about cool bars people should visit all over the world. One of those is Willie T’s, which is a floating bar in the Carribean (which is cool in of itself). One of the things that makes Willie T’s “sexy” as the host called it, is the thing they call a “shotski“.

It is a ski that has hour holes in it that can hold four shot glasses filled with….of course…Willie T’s own brand of alcohol. You can see a picture of some lucky patrons having a drink with their friends below.

The Marketing Strategy Cheerios Is Using To Reach Soldiers And Send Good “Cheer”

In this article, you will learn a marketing strategy that General Mills is using to produce goodwill and how they are using creative thinking to spice up their marketing campaign.

I was watching tv yesterday and noticed a marketing campaign that Cheerios is using to reach out to military families. On specially marked boxes of Cheerios, you can cut out a section that spells out the word “Cheer” and send it as a postcard to a soldier overseas. How brilliant is that? They are literally spreading “Cheer”. Plus, they are donating $1 to the USO to support the troops. Props to the ad executive(s) who thought of that campaign!

You can see the ad below.

Action Steps:

- How can I partner with an organization that helps society and gets my marketing message out to the world?

- How can I get creative with my marketing message like General Mills did using the word “Cheer”?
